In the summer of 1999 the von Varnbüler family in Germany
celebrated the 350th anniversary of its historical connection with the town of Hemmingen.
It was a major weekend event in the town, with an extensive program of activities. It was also a family reunion,
hosted by Baron Ulrich von Varnbüler and family; members of the extended family came from miles around to join in the celebration.
Also in attendance was one slightly out-of-place couple from America who did not know any German, Ray and Gay VarnBuhler,
who had the good fortune of having been extended an invitation to the event.

On the afternoon of the event, the citizens of Hemmingen were invited to the park behind the city hall to enjoy food, drink, music, and more.
A huge tent had been set up with tables and a bandstand. At some point a band marched through the front gate and headed for the bandstand.
Signifying the importance of this event, the post office issued a special commemorative envelope with the portrait of Johann Conrad Varnbüler.
An important part of the event was the publishing of this book about the history of the Varnbüler family, starting with its beginnings in Switzerland.
